Automated commercial invoices

Print Trail can generate your commercial invoice documentation automatically, for use on international shipments.

When shipping internationally, a ‘commercial invoice’ is required to be printed and attached to most shipments, to aid with customs processing at the destination country.

‘Commercial invoices’ contain specific data that a typical invoice does not normally include.

Inaccurate or incomplete commercial invoices can result in shipments being returned, delayed, or additional charges from customs and customs brokers.

Creating accurate commercial invoices can be time-consuming and can add delays to shipments. For this reason, Print Trail offers the ability to automate the creation of commercial invoices using the data you supply for products, orders, and your business.

How to enable automated commercial invoices

👉 Only team managers can edit the automated commercial invoice settings.

Automated commercial invoices can be enabled/disabled in your Print Trail via your team’s settings: Settings > Customs

For automated commercial invoices to work correctly, all the following data must be completed and valid:

  1. Your team’s customs settings: Settings > Customs
  2. Your business address: Settings > Billing
  3. Each product’s weight, dimensions, and price info: Product > Details tab
  4. Each product’s customs info: Product > Customs tab
  5. Order details (including full shipping address, contact name, contact phone number)

Learn more about configuring your customs data.

You are responsible for ensuring that all business (team) and product data is completed and accurate – including the details on each product’s ‘Customs’ tab. If data required for customs is missing, fulfilments may be put on hold until you update the data on Print Trail.
