Step-by-step instructions

To add a single product manually in the Print Trail app, follow these steps:

1. Go to Products > Create Product

  • Complete the short form with the basic product details
  • As a minimum, each product requires the following fields:
    • Product name
    • Product type (one of: book, poster, leaflet, brochure, dust jacket, cd, dvd, other)
    • A product identifier (one or more of sku, gtin, isbn-13, isbn10, ean, upc). See Product identifiers.
  • Click ‘Save
  • You’ll be redirected to the new product’s details page. You could stop here but it’s best to add more details to the product, otherwise the product may not be able to be ordered and/or shipped.

2. Add product details

When viewing/editing a product you will notice there are four tabs under the product name:

On the product’s ‘Details’ tab, add the following information to your product:

  • Dimensions amounts and units (not required if the product is print-on-demand only)
  • Weight amounts and units (not required if the product is print-on-demand only)
  • Price information
  • Customs tab data

⚠️ Accurate weight and dimension information is essential for each product as it is used to determine shipping methods

Step 3. Configure production methods

Decide whether you wish to enable Inventory and/or Print-on-demand for this product.

These settings are managed by the Inventory and/or Print-on-demand tabs on each product.

Step 4. Add optional information

Optionally, add this product information:

  • Images
  • Description

Step 5. Activate the product

When you’re ready to place orders for this product, make sure the product is set to ‘Active’ (using the drop down, top right).

Additional details

The product fields are described in greater detail below:

Status

If set, product status must be one of the following options:

  • active (this product is able to be ordered)
  • pre_order (this product can be ordered, but orders will be processed only when stock is available or print-on-demand is enabled and approved)
  • inactive (this product cannot be ordered)

Dimensions and Weight

Product sizes and weight are necessary for a product to be shipped.

When you add dimensions and weight to a product, remember to set the units, as shown below.

Prices and costs

  • Prices are the standard retail price you charge a customer for the product.
  • Costs are the wholesale costs you pay to purchase items. These are optional.

We recommend you include prices for all your products to ensure smooth international shipping.

Each product’s cost and price can be set in up to three currencies: USD, GBP, EUR:

  • price_GBP, price_EUR, price_USD
  • cost_GBP, cost_EUR, cost_USD

👉 Add prices and costs in all three currencies. Each Print Trail location has its own default currency, and this data will be used in customs documents for international shipments.

Other product tabs

  • Inventory – choose where your product inventory should be located and where each inventory location should ship to.
  • Print-on-demand: – configure your product for print-on-demand (no inventory fulfilment)
  • Customs: Adding customs information to your products is essential for international shipments.
